Recital Season Arrived Early This Year!
Recital season came sooner than we expected this year.
Our venue, the Elks Club, was unable to give us a December date, so we selected the next best option: November 17, the week before Thanksgiving.
Over the next several weeks, we will make sure that every student receives an appropriate recital piece and has plenty of help preparing it. Students in Play a Song, Sing a Song, along with our newer beginners, generally perform pieces that are shorter and simpler to learn. If your beginning student has not received a recital piece yet, please don't worry. It is coming, and there will still be enough time to prepare it successfully.
Recital preparation requires a little more practice than an ordinary lesson assignment because it happens in stages. First, students learn the notes, rhythm, and fingering until the piece feels secure. Next, they memorize it thoroughly so they can perform with confidence. Finally, we add the dynamics, phrasing, expression, and other musical details that transform a collection of correct notes into music that truly sings. It is an exciting process, and we look forward to watching every student's piece grow during the coming weeks!
