Shilla Smith
My name is Shilla Smith and currently I am a junior in high school. I have been at Allegro Piano Studios for five years now, and I have been doing ABRSM for three.
Piano for me is an incredible privilege to learn because with enough practice, the instrument will reflect time commitment, discipline, and eventually virtuosity. I am reminded of this every time I compare my old piano books to my new ones, seeing the complexity of the pieces I have played increase. Just by looking at my old and new sheet music, I can tell that I have grown as a pianist.
At Allegro Piano Studios I help run the Solfeggio group lessons in order to train the student’s ear to know pitches of notes before they even hear them which allows students to connect with the music on a deeper level which many of them felt the activity to be very helpful.
Outside playing piano I have played tennis for six years, I have a job coaching tennis, I am an intern for the School Based Health Center, and I have been taking summer courses at UC Berkeley since 8th grade. Piano is something I will do for the rest of my life and it keeps me creative, builds neural pathways, helps with coordination, and improves my problem solving skills.

Andrea Chan
My name is Andrea Chan and I am a sophomore in high school. I have played piano since I was in 1st grade, but I joined Allegro Piano Studios when I was in 4th grade. I am currently studying for ABRSM Grade 7 as well as helping teach younger students in the studio. Over the years, I have taken part in many recitals and through these recitals, I could see significant growth from when I first started compared to now.
Outside of piano, I am a part of my school’s swim team as well as taking part in my school’s Red Cross and UNICEF club. Learning piano has been my gift in disguise because not only have I improved my piano ability, I have also learned many skills that helps me outside of piano.
